Demand for gluten free birthday cakes is growing

Gluten intolerance is on the increase, which is commonly thought to be due to the changes in the way food is processed as well as our eating habits.  This has caused a rise in the demand for free from foods, such as gluten free cakes , gluten free birthday cakes and gluten free muffins.

Children are more susceptible to being allergic to gluten, which is a type of protein that is commonly found in wheat based products.  This specific food allergy is usually inherited and develops within the first 6-24 months of infancy, or when the child begins to eat foods containing gluten.

It commonly causes symptoms such as an upset stomach, weight loss and appetite loss. This can damage the lining of the small intestine, which can cause problems when it comes to absorbing nutrients from food- in some cases this can lead to malabsorbtion.

Gluten intolerance happens because the immune system responds abnormally to the gluten protein found in foods such as wheat, rye and barley as well as other processed foods.  Though this condition cannot be cured there are preventable measures which can help to reduce the sufferer’s risk of experiencing an allergic reaction, such as choosing free from foods.

So if you’re hosting a children’s birthday tea party this summer, to make sure no child misses out on the sugary goodness of the birthday cake, gluten free birthday cakes are the ideal solution.  These birthday cakes look and taste just like regular birthday cakes, so no one will need to know that they have been made with special dietary requirements in mind.
