If you love animals go vegan and eat vegan cakes

Actor James Cromwell who played the farmer in the hit children’s film Babe has urged the public that if they love animals the most important thing they can do to is to switch to a vegan diet. Specialist vegan foods are now widely available, such as vegan diet cakes making adopting a vegan diet easier than ever.

Cromwell recently narrated the new eco-film called ‘Farm to Fridge’, which tackles the controversial topic of factory farming. He told the press ‘I got involved through HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States, the country’s largest animal protection organisation) and the film is about the factory farm system, it has a number of images that just devastated me.’ He went on then explain why he chose to narrate the film ‘When you see that kind of savagery you want to tear somebody’s eyes out. But we have to be non-violent, so that’s why I do that, that’s what this is.’

The protection of one particular animal is especially close to Cromwell’s heart-wolves. ‘I happen to be very fond of wolves,’ he said. ‘And I’m always appalled at the policy of the ex-governor of Alaska, shooting wolves from airplanes’

The star has one simple tip for animal lovers everywhere- to ditch the diet that includes meat and animal products such as diary and choose a vegan diet instead.  The vegan diet is quickly gaining in popularity, bringing with it a market for free from foods such as free from cakes- such as dairy free cakes and egg free cake.  Specialist vegan food, such as these vegan cakes are now more widely available than ever before- making a vegan lifestyle much more accessible to people.

Jessica Simpson undertakes vegan diet- thankfully she can still eat diet cakes!

All American pop star-come actress Jessica Simpson has recently switched her traditional Texan diet to a vegan diet, in a bid to get healthy and in shape for her upcoming wedding.

The 30 year old was snapped by the paparazzi going into a vegan restaurant in New York accompanied by her fiancé and her mum.

While Jess has cut all meat and animal products from her diet to reduce her calorie intake, she can still indulge occasionally thanks to specialist diet cakes such as vegan cakes- which do no include any eggs or milk.

Both Jessica and Eric looked relaxed in each others company while visiting the specialist restaurant.  Jessica first tried the vegan diet more than a year ago whilst she was filming her television series, ‘The price of beauty’.  She admitted that in addition to removing meat and animal products from her diet she was drinking specialist herbal teas which she said ‘shocked’ her body.

Shortly after she stopped filming she met Eric who undertook a vegan diet shortly after he retired from playing professional sport.

Jessica told the audience when she appeared on chat show ‘Late night with Jimmy Fallon’ that the couple enjoyed a vegan thanksgiving dinner last year, replacing their traditional turkey for a tofuturkey.

In addition to her new healthy diet, Jessica is also said to be working out four times per week with her personal trainer who also whipped the likes of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow into shape.  However, Jess who is renowned for her curves is said to be shunning the super skinny trend and just wants to be in good shape for her wedding day.

Dairy free cakes and vegan cakes can have a place in a healthy vegan diet

A vegan diet is a diet which prohibits the intake of any food product that comes from animals- such as eggs, dairy products and meat.  It’s often believed that because of the restrictive nature of this diet, vegans have to eat bland foods, and miss out on vital nutrients.

However, contrary to these beliefs, a vegan diet can be perfectly balanced as long as you carefully consider the food groups in your diet. There are also vegan friendly foods available such as dairy free cakes and vegan cakes, which allow vegans to treat themselves occasionally too.

Nutritionists recommend that a healthy vegan diet should include enough fibre, protein and carbohydrates, in addition to a wide range of vitamins. The best way to ensure that your vegan diet is as healthy as possible is by including a wide range of foods in your diet.

Try out new food recipes that contain lots of new ingredients to make sure that you eat as many different food groups and nutrients as possible; this also ensures that you do not become bored with your diet.

The best sources of protein for vegans are seeds, such as sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.  Soy products such as tofu are also rich in protein, as are nuts (always choose the plain, unsalted version) and nut butters. Legumes such as lentils and beans also have high protein content.

A typical vegan diet tends to be low in saturated fat and cholesterol; however it’s essential to include foods which are rich in omega 3 fatty acids too- such as flax oil, ground flax seed, olive oil, leafy green vegetables and soybeans.

To ensure you have a sufficient amount of calcium eat fortified cereal for breakfast and drink fortified juice to accompany it. Leafy vegetables and soy products will also help you to reach your calcium quota.

Most vegans are deficient in vitamin D; to get yours go for a 15-20 minute walk three times per week. This will give your body the right amount of sunlight to produce enough vitamin D- which is essential for your body to absorb calcium and keep your bones strong.

Iron is another essential nutrient for vegans; good sources of iron include dried beans, Brussels sprouts, dark green vegetables- such as kale and broccoli and are a vital part of the vegan diet.

Another top diet tip is to substitute non-vegan ingredients in recipes for similar vegan friendly options. For example cottage cheese can be replaced by crumbled tofu and cows milk traded for rice, soy or almond varieties.

At The Healthy Cake Company they make vegan cakes and vegan birthday cakes made to order by substituting non-vegan friendly products for similar substitutes.   If you are interested in purchasing any of the free from cakes The Healthy Cake Company produces please visit http://www.healthycakecompany.co.uk/
